Dashiwo White Jade Marble Tile Carving Art Park

Located in Dashiwo Town, the White Jade Marble Tile Carving Art Park spans more than 10,000 square meters and stands as a testament to the region’s unparalleled stone carving tradition. Among its most iconic works are:

  • The “Stone God” – Captured mid-swing, hammer in hand, symbolizing the spirit of craftsmanship.
  • Majestic Stone Tripod – A tall, imposing carving that embodies strength and cultural tradition.
  • Intricate Totem Ball – Showcasing the artistry of precise stone carving.
  • Grand Entrance Archway – A monumental structure weighing over 400 tons, standing 8 meters high, 5 meters wide, and 23 meters long, crafted from 379 cubic meters of bluestone and white marble.
  • The Panlong Jade Pillar – Carved from six slabs of white marble, blending elegance with simplicity.

This park has transformed into a cultural landmark, attracting visitors and preserving the legacy of Dashiwo’s marble heritage.

Mine Designated as a Protected Site

According to local authorities, Dashiwo Town holds 24.5 million cubic meters of marble reserves, including 800,000 cubic meters of premium white marble.

Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Dashiwo’s marble has been central to major national construction projects. Premier Zhou Enlai even referred to it as a national treasure during the construction of China’s Ten Great Buildings.

The region is dotted with nearly 1,000 quarry pits and ponds, with the most famous being the Baiyutang Quarry.

Baiyutang: A Legacy of White Jade Marble

The Baiyutang Quarry, a historic source of white jade marble, is set in a 40-meter-wide pit surrounded by 20-meter-high stone walls. Below, emerald-green water submerges marble blocks, their depths still unknown to locals. This unique environment preserves the marble’s smooth texture and brilliant luster.

In 1986, Baiyutang was designated a district-level cultural relics protection unit, solidifying its importance in China’s cultural and architectural heritage.

A master stonemason explained the marble stratification in the quarry:

  • Surface Layer – Soil.
  • Second Layer – Qingbaishi, an early form of marble.
  • Eighth Layer – Huatiezi, an iron-rich, lower-quality marble.
  • Deepest Layers – True white marble, more than 10 meters below the surface, preserved in water for a superior finish and brilliance.

This makes Dashiwo’s white marble among the finest and most valuable in the world.
