Discovery and Overview of the Jade Marble White Deposit

Introduction

Recently, jade-like stone resources were discovered in western China, marking the first super-large natural jade marble white deposit found in the region. The author had the privilege of inspecting the mine, which has now entered small-scale mining operations.

  • Mining operations: Multiple mining points have been established, with semi-mechanized methods in use.
  • Market reception: Initial tests of blocks, slab products, and handicrafts in the stone market have received positive feedback.
  • Material quality: The stone is delicate, bright, and lustrous, producing exquisite handicrafts highly sought after for domestic carved stone applications.

1. Mine Profile

  • Location: Situated in the Gobi Desert between Xinjiang and Gansu.
  • Altitude: Ranges from 1,800m to 2,038m.
  • Climate:
    • Summers: Hot, dry, and arid.
    • Winters: Cold, with frozen soil depth of 1.2–1.5m.
    • Groundwater depth: 3.5m.
  • Accessibility:
    • Proximity to transportation:
      • National highways and railways are located about 20km away.
      • Simple road connections exist between mining points.
    • Primary mode of transport: Cars.

2. Overview of Geological Resources

  • Mining area dimensions:
    • Length: 25+ km (east-west).
    • Width: ~4 km (north-south).

2.1 Stratigraphy

The exposed stratigraphy of the mountain belongs to the Mesoproterozoic Pingshantou Formation, composed of:

  • Flesh-red microcrystalline marble
  • Quartzite
  • Siliceous strip marble
  • Siliceous dolomite
  • Limestone with chlorite and quartz schist

Northern Fault Strata:

  • Contains the Upper Middle Silurian Gongpoquan Formation (First and Second Members).

First Member:

  • Metamorphic sandstone
  • Shale
  • Tuff

Second Member:

  • Metamorphic debris-crystalline tuff
  • Andesite crystalline tuff
  • Metamorphic tabular tuff
  • Tuffaceous sandstone with interbedded gray striped limestone

Eastern end lithology:

  • Andesite
  • Andesite tuff mixed with limestone and shale

This geological composition highlights the diverse mineralogical properties of the jade marble white deposit, making it a valuable resource for decorative and artisanal applications.
