Various Stone Processing Techniques
With the development of science and advancements in technology, stone processing techniques have evolved beyond our imagination. The way marble is shaped and transformed today challenges traditional notions, bringing forth new and unexpected artistic possibilities.
The Elegance of Marble Tiger Onyx
Marble Tiger Onyx is one of the hardest materials available and is widely popular in the building materials market. However, modern techniques have redefined its characteristics, making it appear soft and romantic despite its natural hardness.
One of the most impressive innovations is the creation of a liquid surface effect in marble, making the stone appear as if it has frozen in motion—like a still wave, capturing fluidity in solid form.
A prime example of this technique is the hand-polished marble blocks, which resemble a liquid ocean that has suddenly stopped, freezing waves in time. Under the reflection of light, the surface continuously twists and turns, allowing smooth Marble Tiger Onyx to capture even the subtlest light variations, deepening its visual impact.
The "Petite Loire" Installation
This breathtaking technique was utilized by French designer Mathieu Lehanneur for the Natural Arts Center at the Chaumont-sur-Loire estate, where he created a stunning water marble landscape installation called "Petite Loire."
Positioned just meters away from the natural river surface, Petite Loire mimics the verdant sapphire form of water, appearing as if a wave has been sculpted into the land. The result is a seamless blend of stone, water, and light, filling the surrounding soil with a freshwater texture that is both natural and dazzling.
This installation achieves a harmonious balance between nature and design, creating an artistic realm where stone, water, and light exist as one.
Construction Process of Liquid Marble
Key Construction Steps:
1. Linear Sawing to Form the Prototype
- The initial shape is created using a linear sawing technique.
2. Installation Methods
-
Wet Paste Process:
- Steps: Base leveling → Applying bonding layer (cement mortar) → Stone paving → Detail processing → Completion.
-
Dry Hanging Process:
- Steps: Wall layout → Pre-arranging stone → Expanding bolt → Steel frame installation & adjustment → Stone fixing → Glue protection → Completion.
- Applicable for walls thicker than 30mm.
3. Construction Notes:
- After installation, a close-fitting paving method is used.
- Caulking can be applied as needed, but it is not always required.
The Future of Marble Design
With advancements in processing techniques, Marble Tiger Onyx and other natural stones continue to redefine architectural and artistic possibilities. Whether used in luxury interiors, artistic installations, or innovative architectural structures, these techniques allow marble to take on new dimensions of movement, texture, and elegance.
This fusion of nature and design is a testament to human creativity, making stone more than just a building material—it becomes art.
