The Difference in Artistic Aesthetics

Artistic and aesthetic views vary across different countries due to influences such as geographical environment, culture, and history. What Europeans perceive as beautiful may not necessarily align with Chinese aesthetic preferences.

Westerners often admire mythical characters from legends and biblical stories, whereas the Chinese find beauty in natural elements like plum blossoms, orchids, bamboo, chrysanthemums, mountains, and rivers. Chinese aesthetics emphasize an atmosphere of auspiciousness and tranquility. This difference in artistic preferences explains why Chinese consumers generally dislike white marble penny tile products, which contain strong Westernized elements.

For example, Figure 3 represents a typical Chinese artistic element, a style highly favored by Chinese people. In contrast, Figures 1 and 2 depict Western scenes, which often fail to resonate with Chinese audiences and may even be met with disapproval.

The Discrepancy Between Value and Price

Another significant issue in the mosaic industry is the mismatch between market price and product value, which has led to a decline in enthusiasm among processing enterprises. Some molded mosaic products are priced at only tens of yuan per square meter, leaving processing companies with extremely slim profit margins.

Even high-tech white marble penny tiles do not command ideal market prices. The serious inconsistency between the value and price of mosaic products contradicts economic principles, making production challenging. As a result, fewer companies are willing to invest in mosaic production, particularly for highly artistic designs.

An example of large-scale mosaic application can be seen in Figure 4, which was taken at the Venetian Hotel in Shenzhen. The extensive use of mosaic products in its décor is a rare sight in domestic hotels today. These products were widely produced during the peak of white marble penny tile popularity over a decade ago, but now, very few companies are capable of mass-producing such mosaic designs.
