The crushed man is the first victim discovered in the northeastern part of Pompeii, which has remained largely untouched by archaeologists. The skeleton of a victim was found in an ancient Roman city buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. It was a front page that captivated us with photos of lava flows snaking through the landscape, and we were looking for evidence. This volcanic rock, a type of basalt, was popular during the Roman Empire for the construction of roads and monuments and was quarried in an area now known in central Italy as Pietra Aniciana.

It has a high coefficient of friction, which allows easy movement and at the same time prevents people from suffering accidents when walking on the stone. If the volcanic stone floor tiles is pushed even deeper and compacted, the sand grains fuse to form quartzite.

volcanic stone garden is considered porous because the material it is made of resembles granite and can, in some cases, emerge up to 20 cm deep. volcanic grey stone formations form when much more than 8 inches of material is forgotten and small, naturally occurring holes are formed.
