      Slate is a metamorphic rock with a plate-like structure and no significant recrystallization.

      • The original rock is argillaceous, silty, or neutral tuff.
      • Can be peeled into thin slices along its natural slab direction.
      • The color of slate varies based on impurities present.

      Slate forms through crustal movements that apply long-term compression and bonding to sand and cement under high pressure.
