Proper waxing and maintenance are essential to preserving the natural shine, durability, and longevity of your terrazzo tile 24x24 floors. Follow these comprehensive steps to ensure your terrazzo tiles maintain their beauty and performance over time.
1. Waxing ProcedureStep 1: Cleaning Before Waxing
Mix a neutral all-purpose cleaner with water in a 1:30 ratio and use a scrubber to thoroughly clean the terrazzo floor. Remove excess water using a water suction machine and let the floor air dry completely.
Step 2: Applying Wax
Pour a two-in-one hard polished wax into a wax applicator or mop. Apply the first layer evenly, moving consistently in one direction to avoid missed spots. Allow the first layer to dry for 30-50 minutes, then apply a second layer using the same technique.
Step 3: Polishing After Waxing
The first wax application does not require polishing. After 2-3 wax layers, use a scouring pad and floor machine to polish the surface, enhancing the shine. If the floor appears dull, polish 4-6 more times until your terrazzo tiles shine like new. If polishing doesn’t restore brightness, re-waxing is necessary.
Step 1: Dust Removal
Use an electrostatic dust collector by spraying the original liquid on the bottom of a dust pusher. Allow it to air dry before dusting the terrazzo surface.
Step 2: Cleaning Stains
For stains on the waxed surface, mop the floor using a neutral all-purpose cleaner mixed with water at a 1:10 ratio. Avoid plain water, which can strip the wax layer.
Step 3: Restoring Shine
If wax loses shine or collects dust and stains, polish the terrazzo tile surface until it looks brand new again.
Step 1: When to Remove Wax
Remove old wax after 10-15 waxing applications or every 12-18 months before applying fresh wax.
Step 2: Wax Removal Process
Mix hot water (~50°C / 122°F) with a powerful wax remover in a 1:3 ratio. Spray evenly over the surface and let it sit for 15-25 minutes. Use a floor scrubber with a wax pad to lift the wax and a vacuum cleaner to remove dissolved residue.
Step 3: Cleaning Before Re-Waxing
Mix a neutral all-purpose cleaner at a 1:35 ratio and add it to the mopping machine’s water tank. Scrub thoroughly, vacuum any leftover residue, and allow the floor to air dry before applying new wax.
✔ Avoid alkaline cleaners to prevent corrosion.
