Analysis and Control Measures for Yellowing and Peeling of Slate Wall Coping Stone (Wet Paste Method)

Causes of Yellowing Pollution in Slate Wall Coping Stone (Wet Paste)

  1. Lack of Proper Protection – If the stone is not protected on all six sides or the protective treatment is inadequate, oxidation can occur when exposed to water and air, leading to yellowing.
  2. No Protective Agent Applied – After cutting the stone or removing the back net during construction, failure to apply a protective agent increases susceptibility to discoloration.
  3. Excess Moisture in the Base Layer – Poor construction management can result in moisture levels exceeding the standard, contributing to yellowing.

Control Measures for Yellowing Prevention

  1. Complete Drying & Protection – After processing and cutting, the stone should be thoroughly dried before applying a six-sided protective treatment.
  2. Apply Protective Agent Post-Cutting – After cutting or removing the back net, apply the same protective agent to the exposed surface.
  3. Monitor Moisture Content – Test the base layer’s moisture content before construction. Joints should be cleaned and filled only after 14 days of laying to allow excess water to fully evaporate.
  4. Use Air-Permeable Protection – Once the slate wall coping stone is installed, protect the finished product with an air-permeable material to prevent oxidation.

Issues of Peeling, Slagging, and Chalking in Slate Wall Coping Stone (Wet Paste)

Causes of Peeling, Slagging, and Chalking

  1. Lack of Six-Sided Protection – If the stone is not protected before installation or left untreated for an extended period, it may deteriorate.
  2. Use of Resin Wax – Sealing the stone pores with resin wax during protection can lead to detachment issues over time.
  3. Untreated Stone Diseases – If peeling, slagging, or other stone issues occur and are not promptly addressed, they can worsen, leading to further deterioration and chalking.

Control Measures for Peeling and Slagging Prevention

  1. Cut Off Water Sources – Eliminate all sources of water, including visible water, hidden moisture, and humidity.
  2. Ensure Proper Hydrophobicity – Drain any residual moisture from the stone and dry it thoroughly before proceeding with treatment.
  3. Apply Water-Blocking Protection – Clean, dry, cure, polish, and properly seal the slate wall coping stone surface to enhance durability and prevent further damage.

By following these preventive and corrective measures, you can effectively maintain the structural integrity and aesthetic quality of slate wall coping stones installed using the wet paste method.
