Enhance your space with the rare beauty and lasting durability of semi-precious stone tiles. Each tile is meticulously crafted from high-quality stones, offering not only exquisite aesthetics but also impressive performance for both commercial and residential applications.
These tiles are ideal for feature walls, countertops, or decorative cladding where elegance and strength are paramount. However, due to their unique composition and installation method, careful structural considerations must be made.
From the analysis of the principle of the slotted dry-hanging structure, this kind of dry-hanging method demonstrates poor ability to resist displacement and deformation. The local bearing capacity of the supporting point is also relatively low, requiring thicker stone materials to ensure safety and stability. Furthermore, this method limits the use of large-sized stone, as the pressure exerted by the stacked layers increases with height, turning the Semi-Precious Stone Tiles into a structural wall.
As a result, the bending stress at the T-type plate becomes significant, posing potential safety hazards. In response, national standards have been revised (JGJ133), transitioning from T-type double-sided fasteners to L-type single-sided fasteners. This revised method allows each tile to be fastened individually to a high-load-bearing auxiliary keel, which distributes pressure more effectively and improves overall safety.
❗ Disadvantages of the Slotted Dry-Hanging Method:
1 . Increased Stone Thickness Requirement: To maintain structural strength, stone thickness should be at least 20mm, not including edging. Thinner stones weaken tensile strength at the dry hanging points.
2 . Grooving Risk: Due to the high hardness of semi-precious stone tiles, grooving can cause cracking or damage.
3 . Added Installation Burden: Requires a steel keel, increasing both the building’s load and overall installation costs.
4 . Poor Seismic Performance: Point bearing stress distribution results in low seismic resistance and a reduced safety factor.
5 . Inflexible Post-Installation: Once installed, the tiles cannot be individually adjusted or removed, complicating repairs and redesigns.
Whether you're designing a luxury hotel lobby or a high-end residential space, semi-precious stone tiles offer unmatched beauty with structural advantages when installed using updated and compliant fastening methods. Make sure your installation team understands the structural implications to maximize safety and aesthetics.
