Basic Requirements for Finished Sandstone Wall Plates

1. Thickness of the Slab

• Flexural strength affects thickness requirements:
  • Thicker slabs have lower bending strength but higher load-bearing capacity (proportional to the square of the thickness).
• Minimum thickness standards based on flexural strength (fk):
  • fk ≥ 8.0 MPa → Minimum thickness: 35mm
  • 4.0 MPa ≤ fk < 8.0 MPa → Minimum thickness: 40mm
• Standard flexural strength (fk) calculation:
  • fk = test average - (1.645 × standard deviation)
  • If this value is less than the minimum test value, use the minimum test value.
• Thickness deviation tolerance:
  • +2mm, -0mm (negative deviation is not allowed).

2. Size of the Plate

• Sandstone and travertine have lower strength, so plate size should not exceed 1.0m².
• Avoid long, slender strips, as they are prone to breakage during transport and installation.
• Optimal side length ratio:
  • Best within 1:2
  • Should not exceed 1:3
