The thickness of the loose pavement was originally determined to be 50cm in accordance with the "Highway Engineering Subgrade Construction Specification" (JTJ033-95), and the maximum particle size of the stone material should not be greater than 30cm. During the paving of the test section, it was found that some of the red sandstones with low strength were easily broken, and the fine materials accounted for a considerable part of the proportion of the red sandstone after cracking by blasting, which was obviously different from other stone materials, so the red sandstone was completely removed at first The idea of treating it as a rock-filled embankment is not entirely correct. In fact, under the excitation of large-tonnage rollers, the characteristics of the original rockfill structure of red sandstone have changed, and it has become a soil-rock mixed structure. But at the same time, due to the excessively large layer thickness, it was found through excavation and inspection that there were more stone overheads, that is, the single point qualification rate was low. In order to further overcome this, the thickness of the loose layer was changed from 50cm to 35cm, and the maximum particle size was changed from 50cm to 35cm. Change 35cm to 23cm.
As we all know, roadbed fill is a typical three-phase material composed of disturbed particles, water and air. Different types of fill have different compaction characteristics. The compaction characteristic of soil-rock mixture is a process in which large and small particles overcome the resistance between particles to produce displacement under the action of force, that is, a process in which large and small particles are newly arranged and close to each other, so that the pore volume is reduced and the number of solid particles per unit volume is increased. The compaction of the soil-rock mixture is not only related to the degree of weathering of coarse grains, but also related to its content. When the coarse grain content is less than 40%, the coarse grains are only used as incompressible aggregates in the compacted soil. The compacted fine material plays a decisive role. The characteristics of red sandstone itself reduce the material of large particles under the action of large-tonnage rollers, and cannot play the role of skeleton. It can only be used as incompressible inclusions. The compaction characteristics are between pure soil and pure stone. The density varies to varying degrees due to the presence of coarse particles.
