Repair and Maintenance of Rose Quartz Crystal Slab

1. Crack Repair ("Fix")

Cracks in rose quartz crystal slabs can be fine or wide. Different repair techniques are applied based on the type and width of the crack:

• Fine cracks → Glue infiltration method
• Wide cracks → Glue filling method

For wider cracks (as shown in Figure 14), the glue filling method must be used:

1. Fill the crack with stone powder or crushed stone of the same material.
2. Drip color-matched glue into the crack to blend with the surrounding area.

Note: A single technique is not enough for repairing rose quartz crystal slab cracks. Two or more repair techniques are usually combined for the best results.

2. Maintenance After Repair

• Once the crack has been filled with glue, the slab cannot be polished immediately.
• The repaired slab must be left for at least 24 hours before polishing and final finishing.
• This is a fundamental principle of glue repair. Even in urgent production or delivery situations, this rule must be followed to ensure durability and effectiveness.
• Violating this rule makes the repair ineffective.

3. Inspection Process & Quality Standards

After repair, the cracked areas of the rose quartz crystal slab must be inspected based on the following standards:

3.1 Color Matching

✅ The color of the glue must match the surface color of the slab.
✅ If using gravel for repair, the selected gravel color and texture should blend harmoniously with the surrounding area.

3.2 Glue Level & Filling

✅ For glue filling & infiltration, the glue should be slightly higher than the surface of the crack.
❌ The glue must not be dented or lower than the slab’s surface.

3.3 Crack Filling

✅ All cracks must be completely filled with glue.
❌ No gaps should remain.

3.4 Strength Testing

✅ To check the strength of the repaired crack, a small sample from the repaired slab can be selected for destructive testing.
✅ The test assesses:

• Adhesion between glue & crack surface
• Glue penetration depth
• Overall strength of the repair
