Polishing and Treatment Process for Red Sandstone Stairs

Red sandstone stairs have coarse grains and a high water absorption rate. Their main components include quartz (SiO₂) and feldspar, making them difficult to polish with crystallizing agents and crystal powder. Additionally, their high water absorption makes them prone to contamination.

To effectively treat red sandstone stairs, the primary focus should be on addressing their water absorption before applying a suitable sealing material for polishing.

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Cut the sandstone and mend any gaps with glue. Clean the surface thoroughly and ensure it is completely dry.

Step 2: Prepare the VD composite silane protective agent by mixing it with water in a ratio of 1:13-15, and shake well.

Step 3: Apply the mixed solution evenly using scrapers, rollers, or brushes until the red sandstone completely absorbs it.

Step 4: Apply a sufficient amount of the solution (until the stone no longer absorbs it) evenly. Allow 24 to 48 hours for curing (the longer, the better the effect).

Step 5: Pour the VD penetrating protective agent onto the surface and spread it evenly with a scraper, roller, or brush until fully absorbed.

Step 6: Apply a sufficient amount of the VD penetrating protective agent (until the stone no longer absorbs it) evenly. Allow 24 to 48 hours for curing.

Step 7: Grind the sandstone sequentially up to 500#, cross-grinding each section multiple times:

• Single-disc machine: Cross-grind each section 5+ times
• Grinder: Cross-grind each section 3+ times
  After grinding, clean and dry the surface.

Step 8: Apply an appropriate amount of VD stainless steel glaze to the stone surface. Using a single-disc machine with a scouring pad, polish evenly until a shine appears.

Step 9: Apply VD stainless steel glaze at least twice to achieve the finished product.
