Red Sandstone Landscaping
1. Element Composition
(1) Mineral Chips
- Quartz (95%): Mostly curved due to bubble inclusions, some are colorless and transparent, with low protrusions and no cleavage. Granularity: 0.1~0.3mm, grade I gray-white interference color.
- Feldspar (1%): Mostly potassium feldspar with lattice double crystals, clean surface, negative and low protrusions, grade I gray-white interference color.
- Mica (0.5%): Displays extremely complete cleavage, with a protrusion in the middle and bright interference color.
- Heavy Minerals (0.5%): Includes magnetite, appearing black under single light and short columnar particles. Completely extinct under orthogonal light, black in color.
(2) Cuttings
- Quartzite Cuttings: Exhibit wavy extinction with a typical clastic structure.
- Quartz Sandstone Cuttings: Quartz grains with secondary enlarged edges.
- Granite Chips: Have a typical granite structure.
- Cuttings Content: 1%.
2. Structure
- Heterobase & Argillaceous Content: 2%.
- Particle Composition: Quartz, feldspar, and cuttings (98%).
- Support Method: Particle-supported structure.
- Gracefulness: Slight, with occasional feldspar sericitization.
- Sorting: Good; over 75% of particles are concentrated in 0.2~0.25mm.
- Rounding: Multiple angular shapes, sub-primary shape.
- Cement Composition: Mostly siliceous, seen in spontaneously enlarged quartz edges (thickness: 0.05mm).
- Granularity: 0.1~0.3mm.
- Cementation Type: Secondary enlarged type.
- Contact Type: Mostly point contact and line contact.
3. Diagenesis
- Compaction: Evident in the bending and peeling of mica sheets.
- Pressure Dissolution: Reflected in uneven particle contact.
- Cementation: Involves feldspar and the enlarged edges of quartz.
4. Designation
- Particle Content: 98%.
- Quartz Content: High, concentrated in 0.1~0.3mm range.
- Main Type: Red sandstone landscaping.
- Sub-Type: Fine and medium-grained quartz sandstone.
