How to Identify High-Quality Pure White Quartz Countertops

When decorating cabinets or areas that require high durability, many families opt for quartz stone due to its scratch resistance, wear resistance, and incombustibility. However, the quality of pure white quartz countertops on the market varies significantly, making it difficult for consumers to make the right choice. Below are four quick and effective ways to distinguish high-quality quartz countertops from inferior ones.

1. Acid Soak Test

Some manufacturers mix calcium carbonate into quartz countertops to cut costs, but this weakens the material. Calcium carbonate reacts with acids, causing damage over time. To test for this, soak a small quartz sample in dilute hydrochloric acid or another acidic liquid. If bubbles form, the product contains calcium carbonate and is of lower quality.

2. Stain Resistance Test

High-quality quartz countertops have a dense, non-porous surface with low water absorption, making them highly resistant to stains. Inferior quartz has a loose internal structure, leading to higher permeability and easy staining. To test this, pour soy sauce on the surface and leave it for a day. Low-quality quartz will absorb the stain, while high-quality quartz will remain unaffected.

3. Scratch Test

Quartz stone is mainly composed of silica, which gives it a high hardness (usually over 90% quartz content). Inferior quartz contains impurities and poor-quality quartz sand, making it more prone to scratches. To check for durability, try scratching the surface with a knife—if it scratches easily, it is a sign of low quality.

4. Heat Resistance Test

Low-quality quartz countertops contain a high percentage of low-grade resin, making them less heat-resistant. To test this, use a lighter or open flame on a sample piece. If burn marks appear, the countertop has poor heat resistance and is likely made of inferior materials.

By following these tests, you can ensure that your pure white quartz countertop is durable, stain-resistant, scratch-resistant, and heat-resistant, making it a valuable investment for your home.
