Pre-Cut Quartz Countertops

Composition and Properties

Pre-cut quartz countertops are primarily composed of silica, with a mixture of 93% quartz sand as filler and 7% resin and binders.

  • If the resin content is less than 7%, the material lacks toughness and is prone to breaking.
  • If the resin content exceeds 12%, the material becomes more prone to deformation.
  • Standard thickness for quartz stone is 15 mm.

Pre-cut quartz countertops come in a wide variety of colors, as different pigments can be used to achieve virtually any desired shade.

Durability and Performance

  • Scratch & Stain Resistance: Due to its high density and strong hardness, quartz countertops resist scratches and corrosion.
  • Thermal Expansion & Mechanical Properties:
    • Quartz stone exhibits thermal expansion and contraction, which can cause internal stress and cracking if exposed to extreme temperature changes or strong external impacts.
    • It has shrinkage stress, impact toughness, and elongation at break, making it mechanically durable.

Surface Processing and Installation Challenges

  • The surface is polished using over 30 rounds of high-pressure water grinding.
  • Polishing at low speed can lead to whitening and discoloration.
  • A common issue during installation is misalignment, where the two slabs appear uneven.
    • The usual correction method is sanding, which can result in loss of surface luster.
    • Proper seamless splicing requires a skilled installation professional.

Quality Differences in Quartz Stone

High-Quality Quartz Stone

  • Uses a die-casting process
  • Density: 2.46 g/cm³
  • Water absorption rate: 0.02%
  • Superior anti-seepage properties

Low-Quality Quartz Stone

  • Some unqualified products absorb impurities over time, affecting their appearance and durability.

Die-Cast Quartz Stone vs. Cast Quartz Stone

Die-Cast Quartz Stone

  • Manufactured using high temperature, high pressure, and high vibration.
  • Uses dry powder, vacuum-formed under high pressure.
  • High density and hardness → Excellent impermeability, crack resistance, heat resistance, and scratch resistance.

Cast Quartz Stone

  • Similar to ordinary artificial stone production.
  • Liquid mixture is solidified in a vacuum mold.
  • Lower equipment costs, making it easy for general manufacturers to produce.
  • Lower density and hardness → More prone to penetration and damage.
