After the building was nationalized by the Soviet government, a bright and spacious domed bedroom was transformed into a local dairy store on the ground floor, covering an area of 35 square meters.
This space is now the upper level of the Iskra Café, and the basement is a private bar dubbed the "public bar".
The concept behind this project is to design a "real Moscow-style" interior space, in contrast to the countless monotonous Brooklyn styles that have recently emerged in the hippies of the city center. However, the architect is not looking for a kind of "authenticity" that really exists in the local area, but based on imagined, invented, exaggerated and even fictional cities, and designed a "real Moscow-style" space.
Therefore, this "Moscow nature" will be transmitted through the use of local colors (green, red, gray) and materials (brick, cement, and of course marble, in response to the title of "Marble Paradise" of the Moscow Metro). The cafe is bright and spacious, with an open kitchen, a shiny copper fireplace, and onyx mosaic tile patterns throughout the bar and floor.
The interior uses pine furniture, which is thin and long and light in color to avoid cluttering the space. There is a large window inside, so that the whole space is flooded with daylight, and visitors can enjoy the panoramic view of the central street. The indoor luminous sign replaces natural light after sunset and becomes an artificial light source.
