Reimagining Waste: Berea Sandstone Furniture
After becoming familiar with the production methods and various processing procedures of the quarry, the designer’s interest shifted to the remaining processing waste. When a large piece of stone is cut from the rough surface and perforated, the sections that reveal iron oxide after cross-cutting are usually regarded as waste. However, the designer found creativity and inspiration in these discarded pieces, leading to the creation of unique Berea sandstone furniture.
These tables, stools, lights, and trays are the result of repurposing waste materials into functional and artistic designs.
Simple and Practical Trays
These trays are designed to be both practical and aesthetically pleasing—offering a minimalist approach while subtly suppressing the desire for excess.
Stone Lamps: A Blend of Authenticity and Innovation
The designer created a stone lamp that retains the natural form of grey sandstone slabs, preserving their raw authenticity. On this foundation, wires and wicks were added to transform the stone into a functional light source. While these pieces of furniture may not be the most comfortable, the material itself sparks imagination and creativity.

Understanding Grey Sandstone
Grey sandstone is a type of sedimentary rock, primarily formed through the cementation of sand, with sand content exceeding 50%. Most grey sandstone consists of quartz or feldspar, the two most common components of the Earth's crust.
