Water Absorption Rate and Compressive Strength of Green Agate Stone Marble

1. Water Absorption Rate

The water absorption rate of green agate stone marble is calculated as:

Water Absorption Rate=(Weight after water absorptionWeight after complete drying)Dry Weight×100%\text{Water Absorption Rate} = \frac{(\text{Weight after water absorption} - \text{Weight after complete drying})}{\text{Dry Weight}} \times 100\%

Example Calculation:
  • If a stone has a 1% water absorption rate, then:
    • A 100g completely dry sample, when placed in water, absorbs 1g of water.
    • After taking it out and drying the surface, it weighs 101g.
Practical Application:

The water absorption rate reflects the maximum water absorption capacity of the stone. Based on practical experience, stones can be categorized as follows:

  • Low water absorption stones: 0.01% - 0.09%
  • Medium water absorption stones: 0.1% - 0.5%
  • High water absorption stones: 0.51% - 2% or higher

A higher water absorption rate can make the stone more prone to moisture-related issues, such as staining, cracking, or weathering.

2. Compressive Strength

The compressive strength of green agate stone marble refers to the maximum pressure value the stone can withstand before breaking under a load.

  • Unit of measurement: MPa (Megapascals)
  • Conversion: 1 MPa ≈ 1.02 kg/cm²
    • This means that 1 MPa is equivalent to a force of 1.02 kg applied over an area of 1 cm².
Practical Application:
  • Compressive strength is a key physical property of stone.
  • It determines the load-bearing capacity of green agate stone marble.
  • Stones with low compressive strength are more fragile and need careful handling during installation.
  • Compressive strength also affects grinding and crystallization processes in finishing treatments.
