Feldspar is the general name for feldspar group minerals. It is commonly found in the earth's crust, similar to quartz, and is one of the most important components of gray sandstone tiles.
According to statistics, sediments in the earth's crust contain about 5% feldspar. However, under supergene conditions, feldspar is less stable compared to quartz. Modern sedimentary research proves that feldspar content increases with transportation distance but gradually decreases over time.
Feldspar is categorized into potash feldspar (orthoclase) and plagioclase. Potash feldspar is an insoluble potassium salt mineral, typically appearing red, yellow, or white. Its crystals are often short columnar or thick plate-shaped, with a Mohs hardness of 6.
Plagioclase is a very common and important silicate mineral. It does not have a specific chemical composition but is formed as a solid solution series of albite and anorthite in different proportions.
Mica is another common detrital mineral, composed of potassium, aluminum, magnesium, iron, lithium, and other metal aluminosilicates. It is frequently found in sandy or less mature gray sandstone tiles. Mica crystals appear as fake hexagonal flakes or plates, occasionally columnar. They exhibit perfect layered cleavage, a glassy luster, and elastic sheets.
