How to Maintain Granite Vanity Tops for Long-Lasting Beauty

Granite vanity tops require special care to preserve their beauty for years. While granite is scratch-resistant, proper maintenance is still essential to keep it in top condition. Follow these simple steps to ensure your countertop stays flawless:

1. Wipe Up Spills Immediately

Granite surfaces are porous, meaning spills can seep in and cause stains. Always wipe up spills immediately to prevent damage.

2. Use Mild, Neutral Cleaners

Granite has a neutral surface, so it's safe to clean it with stone soap, mild detergent, and warm water.

3. Clean with a Soft Cloth

When using soap or liquid cleaners, wipe the surface with a soft, clean cloth. Afterward, rinse thoroughly with water to remove any residue.

4. Remove Stains with a Paste

If stains occur, remove them based on their type:

  • For most stains, make a paste by mixing:

    • 1 cup of flour
    • 1-2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid
    • Enough water to form a paste
    • Apply the paste to the stain and cover the granite vanity top with plastic wrap overnight.
    • The next morning, scrape off the paste with a wooden utensil and rinse with water.
    • This method works for most stains except grease, oil, and milk stains.
  • For grease, oil, and milk stains:

    • Replace the dishwashing liquid with hydrogen peroxide or ammonia in the paste mixture.

5. Removing Organic Stains

For organic stains caused by coffee, tea, or fruit, mix:

  • 12% hydrogen peroxide
  • A few drops of ammonia
This solution should effectively remove the stain without damaging the granite.

By following these maintenance steps, your granite vanity top will stay beautiful, clean, and stain-free for years!
