Calacatta quartz is wear-resistant, scratch-resistant, not easy to penetrate, strong anti-fouling, non-radiation, non-toxic and other characteristics.
Quartz has a Mohs hardness of 7.5 degrees (3 degrees for marble, 6.5 degrees for granite, and 10 degrees for diamonds), which can prevent scratches such as iron tools to a certain extent. The surface is dense and non-porous, the structure is anti-corrosion and anti-fouling like glass, and the water absorption rate is only 0.02%. Generally, acid and alkali substances such as coffee, oil, and sauce cannot penetrate.
calacatta quartz is a natural stone crystalline mineral, which belongs to one of the inorganic materials. In the production process, it is purified to basically eliminate harmful substances. In addition, the pressed and polished quartz stone has a dense and non-porous surface, which is difficult to hide dirt, so it is safer. Appearance, the surface of a good quartz stone is smooth and soft to the touch, and the internal quartz content can reach about 94%. The inferior quartz stone feels a bit like plastic, with high resin content inside, poor wear resistance, and will change color and thin after a few years.
Taste, high-quality quartz stone has no peculiar smell or light odor. If the selected quartz stone has an abnormally pungent odor, choose carefully. Scratch resistance, we mentioned earlier that the Mohs hardness of calacatta quartz stone is as high as 7.5 degrees, which can prevent iron tools from scratching to a certain extent.
In view of this feature, we can use a key or a sharp knife to scratch the surface of the quartz stone a few times. If the scratches are white, they are mostly inferior products. If they are black, you can buy them with peace of mind.
Thickness, we can look at the cross-section of the stone when selecting, the wider the cross-section, the better the quality.
The thickness of good quartz stone is generally 1.5 to 2.0 cm, while the thickness of inferior quartz stone is usually only 1 to 1.3 cm. The thinner the thickness, the worse the load-carrying capacity. Water absorption, the surface of high-quality quartz stone is dense and non-porous, so the water absorption is very poor.
We can sprinkle some water on the surface of the countertop and then let it stand for several hours. If the surface does not seep into water and does not turn white, it means that the water absorption rate of the material is relatively low, which means that the quartz stone has a relatively high density and is a qualified product.
Fire-resistant, high-quality calacatta quartz stone can withstand heat below 300°C.
Therefore, we can burn the stone with a lighter or a stove and observe whether it has burn marks or smell. Inferior quartz stones will have an unpleasant odor or even be burnt, while high-quality quartz stones have little response.
