      Brown Sandstone Paving

      Iron Content & Dyeing Effect:

      • After dyeing, it appears dark purple.
      • Contains approximately 2% iron.
      • Composed of 70% calcite and 28% dolomite.

      1. Mineral Composition:

      • Mainly calcite, cemented and recrystallized.
      • Dolomite is microcrystalline, formed as a dolomitization product of calcite.

      2. Structural Components:

      1. Particles:
        • Primarily gastropod bio-particles (70%).
      2. Clay:
        • Composed of calcite and dolomitized calcite, forming micrite (10%).
      3. Cement:
        • Formed in two phases by calcite cementation (18%).
      4. Crystal Grains & Bio-Framework:
        • Semi-self-propelled calcite (2%).
        • Bio-framework absent.

      3. Diagenesis (Formation Process):

      1. Compaction:
        • Not obvious, occurs occasionally.
      2. Cementation:
        • Primary cement: Comb-shaped calcite.
        • Secondary cement: Irregular small grains.
      3. Explanation Role:
        • Not significant. Most structures are microcrystalline, with some glauconite minerals from dolomitization.
      4. Recrystallization:
        • Obvious, with 0.2–0.4mm granular calcite in gastropod shells.
