Transform your interior space with our luxurious Alpinus granite counters, renowned for their striking appearance, natural patterns, and outstanding durability. Perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and high-traffic areas, these granite surfaces combine elegance with long-term functionality.
However, the structural integrity of granite counters—especially premium materials like Alpinus—depends heavily on precise processing. One key technique that significantly enhances durability is leaving a 1mm platform on the backside during fabrication.
Whether it’s marble, granite, cracked or non-cracked materials, if a 1mm platform is not left during backside processing, the sharp edges are highly prone to collapse or chipping even with slight external force. This minor step is critical in maintaining both form and function.
This is especially true for Alpinus granite counters that feature numerous natural cracks, such as Golden Spider, Golden Dragon, White Magnolia, Lightning Spanish Beige, Century Beige, Golden Century Beige, Clouddora Gray, and Yaboyu. Without a 1mm buffer, these materials can experience 100% edge collapse, often rendering the slabs unusable and fit only for scrapping.
Likewise, granite with large crystal particles—including Brown Diamonds, Red Diamonds, Green Diamonds, Gold Satin, and Green Stars—will also suffer severe edge collapse without a 1mm allowance at the back.
Even softer and looser materials like Jazz White, Asher White, Slavic White, some variants of Carrara White, and Snowflake White Alpinus granite counters are at risk. If a 1mm backing is not provided, these materials can chip or crumble with mere handling or touch.
Leaving 1mm on the back is the most effective solution to prevent edge chipping and corner damage during the finishing process.
For example, in the Shenzhen East Tower Apartment Project, Yundola Gray (a stone with divergent cracks) initially had a 3mm platform. Yet, Figure 2 from the project shows significant edge collapse. The solution? Increasing the platform to 5mm—proving just how vital this practice is for long-term structural integrity.
Choose Alpinus granite counters not just for beauty, but for a structurally sound, professional finish. Every detail matters—and that includes the 1mm that saves the stone.
