Curing Agent for 72-Inch Granite Vanity Top
After installation, the 72-inch granite vanity top appears sealed, preventing contaminants from penetrating the surface, but the seal is not permanent.
The need for resealing depends on the granite type and frequency of use and should be done every 1-4 years.
To test the effectiveness of the curing agent, drip water onto the surface:
- If the water absorbs quickly, resealing is needed.
- If the water beads up, resealing is not necessary.
Curing agents are available at home improvement or specialty stores. There is no need to reseal the entire vanity top every time.
Preventing & Managing Stains, Limescale, and Residue
1. General Stain Prevention
- No curing agent is 100% effective—immediate cleaning of spills is the best way to prevent stains.
- Though uncommon, cooking-related stains are the most frequent.
2. Avoiding Common Stains
- Do not place oil bottles, rusty cans, or jars directly on the vanity top, as they can cause staining or rusting.
- Use a tray under glassware, especially for alcoholic or citrus-based liquids to prevent acidic damage.
- If the granite appears dim due to moisture, don't worry—it will return to its original color once the water evaporates. However, this indicates that resealing is required.
3. Managing Limescale & Sticky Residue
- Limescale around faucets should not be removed with harsh lime-removal products. Instead, gently scrape it off with a razor blade.
- The flat side of a razor can be used to remove sticky tape, dried paint, glue, or food residue.
4. Removing Stubborn Stains
If stains do occur, follow this process:
- Create a stain-removing paste by mixing swimming pool filter powder and 10% hydrogen peroxide.
- Apply the paste evenly to the stained area.
- Cover the paste with a clear plastic wrap and seal the edges.
- Let it sit overnight.
- Remove and check—if stains remain, repeat the process.
- For more stubborn stains, substitute acetone for the filter powder and repeat the process.
