Marble Bathtub Guide: Styles, Custom Sizes, Installation & Care
A marble bathtub is a freestanding tub carved from natural stone. It is the one fixture that can define a whole bathroom, whether in a private home, a spa or a boutique hotel suite. Ji Yuan Stone makes marble and natural stone bathtubs that are hand-carved and hand-polished, with sizes and colours customized to your drawings.

This guide explains how a stone bathtub is made, which marble colours and styles are available, what to plan before installation, and how to care for a natural stone tub.
What Is a Marble Bathtub?
A solid marble bathtub is shaped from a block of natural stone rather than moulded from acrylic or cast from resin. Because each block is different, natural veining means no two tubs are identical. There is no standard size: every tub is made to fully custom dimensions. The freestanding form shows the stone from every side, so the tub becomes the focal point of the room.
Solid stone is very heavy. Our marble bathtub product pages list a weight of about 1–1.2 tons per tub. That weight is part of the appeal, because the tub sits solidly with no hollow sound, but it also means the floor structure must be planned for it (see installation below).

Marble is not the only option. Our stone bathtubs are also made in other stones such as granite and travertine, so you can match the tub to the floor and wall stone you have already chosen.
Popular Marble Bathtub Styles
White marble bathtubs
A white marble bathtub suits bright, classic bathrooms and works with almost any wall tile. The polished white surface reflects light and makes the room feel larger.
Carrara marble bathtubs
Carrara is the white-and-grey veined look most clients ask for by name. A Carrara marble bathtub pairs well with Carrara wall and floor tiles for a continuous look.

Carrara marble can also be carved into a rectangular tub for more architectural bathrooms.

Black marble bathtubs
A black marble bathtub is the boldest choice. It anchors a luxury suite or spa and contrasts strongly with white or grey walls.

Travertine bathtubs
Beyond marble, a travertine bathtub gives a warm beige tone that suits natural, spa-style bathrooms.

Freestanding marble stone bathtubs
For contractors bidding hotel and residential projects, our freestanding marble stone bathtub is offered in whites, greys and blacks, with veining and tone matched across a multi-tub order.

How a Custom Stone Bathtub Is Made
Every tub is made to order. The process we follow is:
- Your brief. Send photos, sketches or technical drawings with the size, shape and stone colour you want.
- AutoCAD drawings. Our design team prepares AutoCAD drawings for your approval.
- Clay model. The form and proportions are confirmed with a clay model before any stone is cut.
- Carving and polishing. The tub is hand-carved and hand-polished by experienced stone masters.
- Inspection. Our own QC team inspects every tub, and your inspectors are welcome to visit. For project orders we send pre-shipment photos for approval.
- Packing. Each tub ships in protective export crating.
Drain position, overflow options and the exterior finish all follow your technical drawings, so the tub arrives ready to set.
Planning the Installation
- Floor loading. A solid stone tub weighs about a ton before it is filled with water and a bather. Ask a structural engineer to confirm the floor can carry the load, especially on upper floors.
- Access route. Check door widths, stairs and lifts along the delivery route before you confirm the tub size.
- Plumbing. Fix the drain and overflow positions on the drawings before carving; they cannot be moved afterwards.
- Location. Our bathtubs are listed for indoor, outdoor and garden installation, so they also suit terraces and spa gardens.
- Matching stone. If you want the floor, walls or vanity to match the tub, order them together so colour and veining can be coordinated.
Marble Bathtub Care
A carved stone tub has no coatings to peel. Care is the same as for other polished marble:
- Clean with water and a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid acidic or abrasive products, which can etch or dull marble.
- Rinse off bath oils, bath salts and coloured products after use.
- Apply a good stone sealer as recommended by your installer, and reseal when water stops beading on the surface.
- Dry the surface with a soft cloth to limit water spots in hard-water areas.
