G682 Granite: The Complete Guide to Rusty Yellow Granite

G682 Granite: The Complete Guide to Rusty Yellow Granite

G682 is one of the best-known granites from China. Wherever it is sold, it goes by a handful of names: Rusty Yellow, Sunset Gold, Golden Sand or Padang Yellow. In Chinese it is called 黄锈石 ("yellow rust stone"). Its warm yellow-beige ground, sprinkled with rust-brown spots, is why it shows up on so many facades, plazas, garden paths and kitchen counters around the world.

This guide covers what G682 is, where it comes from, how its colour varies, which finishes suit which job, and the standard sizes you can order. It also explains how to request free samples and a wholesale quote from Ji Yuan Stone.

What Is G682 Granite?

G682 is a medium-grained natural granite made mostly of feldspar and quartz, with small amounts of dark minerals. The "rust" in the name describes how it looks: iron-bearing minerals give the stone its golden-yellow tone and its scattered rust-coloured flecks. The colour runs through the whole block, not just the surface, so it doesn't wear off and won't fade in sunlight the way coated or dyed products can.

The "G" code comes from the Chinese granite numbering system, in which a series of codes (G603, G623, G654, G664, G682, G687 and others) identifies specific stones. Many international buyers search by code, which makes "G682" the most reliable name to put on a purchase order.

Origin: Fujian Province, China

G682 is quarried in Fujian Province in south-east China. The traditional source is the Shijing area of Nan'an, near Quanzhou, and other Fujian districts produce similar rusty granites as well. Because several quarries supply material sold as "G682", colour and grain can differ slightly from one source to another. That is the main reason to approve samples before a large order (more on this below).

With 20+ years of experience in natural stone, Ji Yuan Stone supplies G682 from China in tiles, slabs, prefabricated countertops and vanity tops, and in outdoor formats.

Color Grades and What to Expect

G682 is a natural stone, and its colour is a range rather than a single fixed shade. Suppliers usually sort it into rough grades:

  • Deep yellow / golden. A strong yellow-gold ground with clear, dense rust spots. It is the most sought-after look for facades and premium paving.
  • Medium yellow. The most common commercial grade, a balanced yellow-beige.
  • Light yellow / beige. A paler ground with fewer rust spots, often chosen for large paving areas where a calmer look is wanted.
  • Pinkish tones. Some blocks show a light pink-beige cast.

Two practical points for buyers:

  1. Specify the grade with a sample, not just a word. "Yellow" means different things to different people. Approve a physical sample, or photos of the actual production slabs, and keep a reference piece.
  2. Order one project from one production run. For a large floor, facade or plaza, ordering all the material at once keeps the colour consistent across the installation.

Finishes: Which One for Which Job?

The finish changes both the look and the safety of G682 more than any other choice you make.

Finish Look Best for
Polished Glossy, deepest yellow-gold colour Kitchen countertops, vanity tops, interior wall cladding, feature walls
Honed Smooth matte, softer colour Interior floors, countertops where low glare is preferred
Flamed Rough, textured, lighter and more even colour Outdoor paving, steps, pool surrounds, ramps (anti-slip)
Bush-hammered Uniform textured surface Paving, plazas, public walkways
Natural split / pineapple Rustic, hand-split face Landscaping, garden walls, setts and edging

Polished G682 shows the richest colour, but like any polished stone it becomes slippery when wet, so keep it indoors or on vertical surfaces. For walkways, plazas and anything exposed to rain or ice, choose flamed or bush-hammered. For more on outdoor selection, see our guide on how to choose granite for outdoor projects.

Applications

The colour and hardness of G682 let it cover a very wide range of uses:

  • Exterior wall cladding and facades. Polished or honed G682 is a long-standing choice for building facades. It gives a warm, bright appearance that holds up in sun and rain.
  • Paving, plazas and steps. Flamed or bush-hammered G682 is used for public squares, sidewalks, commercial entrances and stair treads. See our landscaping stone collection for pavers, setts and edging, including yellow granite setts.
  • Kitchen countertops. A polished G682 countertop is a warm alternative to grey and white granites, and it holds up well to heat and scratches. Browse our countertop collection, or compare materials in Quartz vs Granite Countertops.
  • Bathroom vanity tops. Prefabricated vanity tops in the standard widths listed above suit hotel, apartment and builder programs.
  • Landscaping and garden features. Natural-split G682 makes walls, edging, stepping stones and water features look naturally aged.
  • Interior floors. Honed G682 works well in lobbies and corridors where a warm, low-glare floor is wanted.

G682 Compared with Other Popular Chinese Granites

If you are still choosing a colour, these are the granites G682 is most often compared with:

  • G682 vs G603 / G623. G603 and G623 are light-to-mid greys that hide dust and salt residue, which makes them the default for municipal and street work (see our G623 kerbstone guide). G682 is the choice when the design calls for warmth instead of a neutral grey.
  • G682 vs G687 / G664. G687 (Peach Red) and G664 are pink-to-red granites. G682 stays in the yellow-beige family and is easier to pair with wood, sandstone and cream-coloured materials.
  • G682 vs G654. G654 is dark grey. The two are often used together for contrast borders and patterns in paving.

You can browse every variety in our granite collection, including G603, G623, G654, G664 and G687.

Care and Maintenance

G682 is low-maintenance, but a few habits keep it looking its best:

  1. Seal it. Apply a penetrating stone sealer after installation, especially on countertops, vanity tops and outdoor paving. Re-seal periodically according to the sealer manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Clean with pH-neutral products. Use mild soap or a stone cleaner. Avoid strong acids, bleach and abrasive powders, particularly on polished surfaces.
  3. Wipe spills promptly. Oil, wine and coffee should be wiped up quickly on countertops so they don't soak into the stone.
  4. Watch for rust sources outdoors. Leaving iron furniture, steel tools or iron-rich fertilizer on paving can stain the surface. Lift them off and clean the stone.
  5. Use the right de-icing approach. In cold climates, choose de-icers recommended for natural stone and sweep up the residue after winter.

FAQ

Is G682 the same as Rusty Yellow and Sunset Gold granite?
Yes. G682 is the standard Chinese code. Rusty Yellow, Sunset Gold, Golden Sand and Padang Yellow are trade names used for the same family of Fujian yellow granite. Because colour varies between quarries, always confirm with a sample.

Can G682 be used outdoors in freezing climates?
Yes. Granite's low water absorption makes it well suited to outdoor use. For paving and steps, choose a flamed or bush-hammered finish for grip. Flamed outdoor paving is supplied 2 cm or 3 cm thick.

Is G682 good for kitchen countertops?
Yes. Polished G682 is hard, heat-resistant and scratch-resistant. Seal it after installation and wipe up oil and acidic spills promptly.

What thicknesses are available?
Slabs and countertops are 2 cm or 3 cm thick, with 4 cm available as a custom cut-to-order option. Flamed outdoor paving is 2 cm or 3 cm, and 10 mm tiles are for indoor use.

Does the colour of G682 change over time?
The colour is in the stone's minerals, so it is very UV-stable and does not fade. Outdoor surfaces can pick up dirt or rust stains from external sources; regular cleaning and sealing keep the original tone.
